Edgar M. Wing Post records, 1891-1910.

The records of the Edgar M. Wing Post contain five volumes: two minute books, 1895-1910, two cash books, 1891-1909, and a volume entitled Personal War Sketches, presented to the Post by Henry Crandall in 1891. The Personal War Sketches is a large volume in which the Post historian recorded the service in the Civil War of the members of the Post. Entries for members of the Post are alphabetical by last name. Included in the record are the battles in which the veteran was a participant, as well as mention of his enlisted friends. Dates of birth, enlistment, and death are noted.

The Edgar M. Wing Post No. 147 of the Grand Army of the Republic was organized in 1878 and received its charter in 1880. Its members were veterans of the Union armed forces in the Civil War, and the purpose of the Post was to strengthen the bonds of friendship these Union veterans formed during the War.
